🛠️ CORRECTIONS & UPDATES POLICY

Last Updated: December 2025
Republic Watch (“we,” “our,” “us”)

Republic Watch is committed to accuracy, transparency, and accountability.
Our goal is to correct mistakes promptly and clearly, ensuring our readers receive accurate and trustworthy information.

This Corrections & Updates Policy outlines how we handle errors, updates, and retractions.

1. Our Commitment to Accuracy

We strive to ensure all reporting is:

  • Factually correct
  • Properly sourced
  • Fair and balanced
  • Supported by verifiable evidence

When inaccuracies occur, we correct them as quickly and transparently as possible.

2. Types of Errors We Correct

We correct errors that materially affect:

  • Facts (names, dates, locations, numbers, data)
  • Quotes or attributions
  • Mischaracterized information
  • Misleading statements
  • Incorrect context
  • Incorrect interpretation of official reports or documents

Minor grammatical or stylistic edits that do not affect meaning may be made silently.

3. How Readers Can Request a Correction

Readers who believe they’ve identified an error may contact us at:

📧 corrections@republicwatch.org

Please include:

  • The article title
  • URL
  • Description of the issue
  • Supporting evidence (if available)

A member of our editorial team will review the request.

4. How We Handle Corrections

When an error is confirmed, we take the following steps:

A. Correct the factual error in the article

We update the content to reflect accurate information.

B. Add a correction note

At the bottom of the article (or top for major updates), we include a correction notice such as:

  • Correction (Month Day, Year): A previous version of this article misstated…
  • Update (Month Day, Year): Additional information has been added to clarify…

C. Timestamp updates

For significant changes, we update the publication timestamp and note the reason.

D. Preserve transparency

We do not erase mistakes without disclosure.

5. Updates vs. Corrections

Corrections

Are made when an error affects accuracy.

Updates

Are made when:

  • New developments arise
  • Additional information becomes available
  • A story is expanded or clarified
  • Official agencies release new data

Update notices appear as:

Update (Month Day, Year): New details added regarding…

6. Retractions

Retractions are rare but may occur when:

  • An article contains substantial inaccuracies
  • Key information cannot be verified
  • Ethical or sourcing violations are discovered
  • The story does not meet our editorial standards

Retractions include:

  • A clear note at the top of the article
  • An explanation of why the content was retracted
  • Preservation of transparency without hiding the issue

We will never delete an article to hide wrongdoing.

7. Handling Opinion Content Corrections

Opinion pieces are subjective, but factual claims within them must still be accurate.

If an opinion article contains factual errors, they will be corrected with a note, just like news content.

8. Social Media Corrections

If significant errors were shared on social media platforms, we will:

  • Correct the post when possible
  • Issue an updated post with corrected information
  • Delete incorrect posts only if necessary to prevent misinformation

9. AI-Generated Content Checks

Republic Watch may use AI tools for editorial assistance only.
All content is reviewed by a human editor before publishing.

If any AI-assisted content contains inaccuracies:

  • Corrections follow the same process outlined above
  • We maintain transparency in updates
  • We do not rely on AI for unverified claims

10. Accountability

The editorial team is responsible for:

  • Reviewing correction requests
  • Validating claims
  • Implementing corrections
  • Issuing update notices
  • Maintaining editorial transparency

We welcome reader participation in maintaining high standards of accuracy.
